The workshop portion of ICAD 2011/2012 (6 – 12 November 2011) will consist of visits to various alternative development sites in Thailand. Best practices and lessons learned will be presented and discussions will focus on these and other issues. The workshop is planned to be followed by a high-level international conference to build a consensus on the future direction of alternative development among all stakeholders. Both the workshop and conference will be organized in close collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. It is envisaged that experts, practitioners, and high level representatives from Member States will participate in the ICAD to exchange their best practices as well as participate in developing a set of International Guiding Principles on Alternative Development, which could serve as an authoritative reference and define a new paradigm and concerted strategy for development oriented drug control programmes worldwide.
